What a fantastic start to summer – sunshine and BBQ’s all the way at the Doocot.
Such amazing Scottish weather so far this year with tadpoles and minnows aplenty in the pond. Wild garlic with its noticeable scent providing a lovely base for soups and home made breads. Butterflies and bees surrounding the lavender and honeysuckle with the bees providing a soporific, melodic drone – perfect for a sunny afternoon snooze!
Our guests so far this year have been from Australia, Canada, Germany, France and England with some guests returning year after year which is just lovely. To a person all of our guests have been absolutely delightful.
Popped along to St Andrews last week for a bit of R&R only to find us competing for space with Barrack Obama and his teams of security guards. Despite this additional buzz St Andrews was fantastic as usual.
Last week the Anstruther muster was a real highlight – quite a sight to behold with boats covered in bunting creating a carnival atmosphere. They really do put on a great show including free entry into the Scottish Fisheries Museum and the Reaper …. a fully restored herring fisher which is the pride of a team of local old salts. Entertainment throughout the day and night – halted for an hour or two by a really wild thunderstorm. We were sleeping on Robert’s boat and it made for a magical experience. When the storm finally abated we danced in the marquee into wee small hours to the sounds of Rockabilly music. Who could ask for more……. not us!
